Community Collaboration Takes Center Stage at the 15th Edition
The 15th edition of the Abu Dhabi Art Fair, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is set to showcase a series of community initiatives aimed at fostering creativity and collaboration. Scheduled from 22 to 26 November, the Fair introduces its inaugural collaborative community project installation, 'Into the Horizon', along with the announcement of winners for the Pavilion Prize and Logo Competition.
Into the Horizon Community Project
'Into the Horizon,' a community project installation, emerges as the highlight of Abu Dhabi Art's commitment to sustainability. Curated by Nadine Maalouf, Co-Founder of 81 Designs and Co-Chair of Friends of Abu Dhabi Art, the project brings together twelve Community Partners under the theme of sustainability. Partners include 81 Designs, ADMAF, Alghadeer UAE Crafts, FBMI, House of Artisans, Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, Maraya Art Center, MOFA, Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza Foundation, Ma’an, NMSS, and Weaving Alliances. Unveiling on 22 November at Manarat Al Saadiyat, 'Into the Horizon' will later be exhibited at COP28 until 12 December.
Pavilion Prize
The 2023 Abu Dhabi Art Pavilion Prize champions Mariam Al Tamimi from Zayed University as the first-place winner. Ayah AlKhatib, Rand Tayfour, and Zakia Al Ameri from Abu Dhabi University secured second place. Al Tamimi's winning project, 'The Alert Pavilion,' confronts climate change using recycled materials and symbolic representations of the consequences of rising temperatures. The versatile structure aims to be relocated or repurposed for future projects. The runner-up project, 'Hawa,' crafted by three Abu Dhabi University students, emphasizes environmental mindfulness through its easily disassembled, reusable, and recyclable construction.
Logo Competition
To mark its 15th anniversary, Abu Dhabi Art initiated a Logo Competition, won by Batool Al Tameemi. As part of the prize, Al Tameemi will gain valuable professional experience through an internship with the Abu Dhabi Art team.
ART + TECH Programme
The 2023 ART + TECH programme, led by artist Nujoom Alghanem, brought together 21 students from eight universities. Over six months, students with diverse scientific backgrounds engaged in workshops, exploring phenomena, conducting research on weather methodologies, and creating art concepts derived from scientific studies. Group installations from the programme will be exhibited at Manarat Al Saadiyat in conjunction with the Fair.
