Red Sea Global (RSG), the pioneering developer behind The Red Sea and Amaala, two of the world's most ambitious regenerative tourism destinations, has joined forces with Zain KSA, a leading telecom and digital services provider in Saudi Arabia, to unveil the world's inaugural zero-carbon 5G network at the Six Senses Southern Dunes resort situated within The Red Sea.
This groundbreaking zero-carbon 5G network, exclusively tailored for The Red Sea, represents the resort's latest technological marvel. Crafted with a dual focus on both human well-being and environmental responsibility, this revolutionary 5G network promises guests unparalleled connectivity speeds in the 5G domain. What makes it even more remarkable is that it derives its power entirely from renewable energy sources, drawing energy from a colossal array of over 760,000 solar panels meticulously installed by Red Sea Global across the expansive 28,000km2 destination.
John Pagano, Group CEO at Red Sea Global, expressed the company's aspirations, stating,
We aspire to be global pioneers of regenerative tourism development, adopting 100% renewable energy at our flagship destination, The Red Sea, and working towards the achievement of a 30% net conservation benefit by 2040. These ambitious goals demand ambitious partners, and our collaboration with Zain KSA transcends telecommunications, extending into sustainability and environmental protection.
Mr. Pagano added,
Zain KSA has demonstrated a deep understanding of our requirements and provided us with the services and solutions necessary to achieve our strategic objectives. Together, we are determined to make a meaningful impact that sets new standards in sustainable development.
The towers housing this cutting-edge 5G network are a marvel of innovative 3D printing technology, designed to fulfill three key objectives: environmental preservation, emission reduction through renewable energy utilization, and mitigation of visual disruption. These towers have been painstakingly crafted to blend seamlessly with the unique and vibrant landscape of The Red Sea, taking inspiration from the surrounding rock formations. Their exterior aesthetics integrate harmoniously with the resort's natural habitat, ensuring minimal visual impact while preserving the project's environmental integrity.
Eng. Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al-Deghaither, CEO of Zain KSA, expressed their pride in this achievement and their commitment to sustainability, saying,
As a leading provider of telecommunications and digital services, we are immensely proud of this achievement that will certainly pave our way to become a pioneering sustainable technology provider.
He continued,
By prioritizing tech for sustainability through innovation and the development of cutting-edge digital infrastructure, we can effectively turn these values into reality. Within this approach, we are committed to localizing innovation and promoting the use of locally sourced content. With these remarkable achievements, we are further bolstering our support for one of our nation's crucial strategic projects, demonstrating our commitment to realizing Saudi Vision 2030’s goals for nationwide digital transformation and sustainability.
RSG's selection of partners is guided by shared values, and Zain KSA's commitment to transitioning the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector to net-zero perfectly aligns with RSG's dedication to keeping sustainability and regeneration at the core of its resorts. The creation of this 5G network is fully in harmony with the objectives of Vision 2030, which include increasing clean energy reliance, reducing carbon emissions, and safeguarding the environment.
Set to welcome its first guests later this year, The Red Sea will encompass 50 resorts, offering over 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites upon completion. The destination will also feature luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, dining, and leisure facilities, contributing significantly to the vision of a sustainable and vibrant future.
