The Himam Trail Run Race 2025 is entering its final countdown, with organisers confirming full operational readiness for the three-day sporting event scheduled from 11 to 13 December. This upcoming edition marks a historic milestone for the race: 4,500 runners from 68 countries are now officially registered, making it the largest and most internationally diverse edition since its launch.
The announcement follows a major achievement earlier this year, when Himam was appointed the official organiser of Oman by UTMB® 2026, securing its position on the global trail-running map and reinforcing Oman’s growing reputation as a world-class outdoor destination.
Precision Planning Across the Al Hajar Mountains
Months of preparation have been dedicated to refining the 2025 courses across the dramatic landscapes of the Al Hajar Mountains. Fieldwork included route optimisation, safety reviews, medical coordination, and multi-agency planning to ensure smooth operations across all race categories.
The event opens on Thursday, 11 December, with the flagship Al Hajar ULTRA 120KM. Starting in Al Hamra, the course climbs historic mountain pathways toward the high plateaus of Jabal Akhdar, then descends into Birkat Al Mouz. Known for its demanding elevation, technical single-track sections, narrow rocky passages, and agricultural heritage trails, the 120KM race continues to draw elite competitors from around the world.

A Three-Day Showcase of Omani Geology and Culture
Races continue on Friday with the Skyward Canyon 60KM from Izki, leading runners through stepped ascents, canyon passages, and exposed ridgelines emblematic of central Hajar terrain.
Friday also introduces a new addition: the Old Capital Trail 35KM in Nizwa, connecting participants with one of Oman’s most historically significant cities.
Later in the day, the Scenic Sprint 20KM sets off from Birkat Al Mouz, guiding runners along panoramic viewpoints overlooking palm oases, terraced farmlands, and traditional mountain villages. Together, these routes offer an immersive journey through Oman’s geological diversity and its deep cultural roots.
Advanced Readiness & Enhanced Safety Measures
Organisers confirm that preparations have reached an advanced stage. Each race route has been thoroughly assessed by medical, logistics, and operations teams to validate markings, evaluate technical sections, and ensure that aid stations are fully equipped.
Emergency protocols were updated in coordination with national response agencies, and simulation exercises were conducted ahead of race week. These measures form part of a broader operational upgrade as Himam prepares to host Oman by UTMB® 2026.
